Less sparkle, more magic

Hallo Reader,

This year, I’ve decided not to drag out the tinsel or untangle the string lights. The ornaments will stay safely tucked away in the attic. We’re not even putting up a tree.

It’s not because I don’t love Christmas—I do.

But it’s so easy to get swept up in the rush of the holidays: the shopping lists, the elaborate décor, the picture-perfect tablescapes.

This year, though, I’m choosing to let it all go. Not because those things aren't fun, but because they’re not the heart of what makes this season special.

Sometimes, it’s the things we don’t do—the distractions we set aside—that create space for a truly meaningful Christmas.

So my house might not sparkle like a Hallmark card this year, but my heart feels lighter knowing how I'll spend those freed-up hours: making holiday crafts with my daughter, catching up on work (so I can truly unplug later) and saying "yes" to spontaneous family movie nights (on the Hallmark channel, of course).

What if letting go of a "perfect" Christmas opens the door to something even better—those unplanned moments where holiday magic really happens?

What could you press pause on this year? What might that make room for? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Tot ziens,

Sara

Bonjour Reader, If there’s one thing I’ve learned from years of planning adventures, it’s this: you can decide where you want to go and you can figure out how to get there. That mindset is exactly how, just a couple of weeks ago, I took an incredible 2-week journey involving 8 flights, 6 separate tickets, nonprofit work in India and a bucket-list stop in Iceland—complete with an erupting volcano. It started simply enough: I’d join a fellow nonprofit board member and friend for the annual trip...

A gift I didn't know I had

Hallo , This week, I’d like to share a piece of my story with you and, in doing so, invite you to think about your own. I almost missed it. I’ve always had a knack for making complex subjects feel simple and accessible—and my career in training, communications and marketing has fine-tuned this skill. For a long time, though, I thought this ability was just something anyone could do—nothing unique or special. That changed when I began documenting and sharing my family’s stories. I saw how my...

3 unexpected places my family connects best

Halló Reader, You don’t need elaborate vacations or special holidays to really connect with your family. Some of our best times come from everyday, right-where-you-are moments. Here are 3 incredibly normal places where my family absolutely thrives: 1| The Grocery Store For a few years, I mostly had our groceries delivered. It saved time...but it didn’t give me the opportunity to teach my daughter about money—and all sorts of other useful skills. It also didn’t give her the opportunity to...
